Checklist of things to bring to your branding session

Now that you know what to wear, you’re wondering what to bring to your branding session. The list of styling accessories, props, and materials is going to depend on your industry. What you do in your business and what elements set your brand apart are best defined by you! There are likely a few items unique to your business that we will want to showcase. We’ll plan everything together, so I’ll help you find those things! But here are a few tips to get you thinking.

Your “work from home” staples:

  • A fresh notebook and pen in colors you really love, that fit within the theme
  • Your laptop, tablet, and cell phone–don’t forget to clean the screens!
  • Your favorite coffee mugs, preferably in neutral colors
  • Small framed photos of family or simple trinkets to stage your desk area
  • On-brand desktop accessories

Industry-specific things from your business:

  • Fresh, new tools or supplies. For instance, an artist may bring paint brushes.
  • Your work bag or laptop backpack
  • Items that are part of your creative process, like color swatches and fabric samples
  • The ingredients to your finished product, if you make a physical product
  • Brand elements, like wax seals, silk ribbon, branded thank you cards, etc
  • Your finished products, and almost finished products that we can put together on-camera
  • Bring your client! If that applies to, we can stage some behind-the-scenes photos of you working with your client

All Things “You”

  • Favorite drink, candy, or snack, especially if it’s important to your brand personality
  • Your partner or significant other, if they’re part of your business story
  • Some books or magazine you’re into
  • A bottle of wine or champagne, or a mix drink kit
  • Fresh flowers or a desk plant
  • Hobbies, pastimes, and interests

Additional Considerations

Don’t go out and buy everything in your brand color. A great visual brand and color palette includes supporting neutrals. We want your images to be clean, have balance, and serve multiple purposes. This means leaving the color scheme open-ended. Similar to the advice I give about your outfits, I want you to be strategic with picking a few items that are colorful and the rest neutrals.

Without being too cheesy, you may want to bring a few seasonal items. For your winter session, we may snap a photo of you hanging a wreath up at your storefront. These images will not be the focus of our session unless your branding session is specifically to create content for a holiday-centered marketing campaign.

Still not sure what to bring to your branding session?

If you’re still not sure what to bring to your branding session, just ask! I am here to help you plan and make sure you get the most out of our time together. I’m happy to hop on a zoom call and review your accessories and props. Most of the photos won’t heavily feature your props. You will still be the highlight of the session, so try not to stress about the background items.
