Lisa Brooks, From Chef to C.E.O.

July 15, 2020

After a decade of serving the Charlotte, North Carolina community, Chef Lisa Brooks is growing by leaps and bounds, stepping outside the kitchen and into her role as Chief Executive Officer of Heart and Soul Personal Chef Services.

If you are a Personal Chef and you wonder if it’s possible to carry the title of C.E.O. Lisa is here to tell you it is! Her passion for southern cuisine ignited her culinary journey, but perseverance and grand vision has created a space for these passions to take on a life of their own. I have had an incredible opportunity to get to know Chef Lisa and she is truly an inspiration.

Heart and Soul Personal Chef Services range from intimate to large scale dinner parties as well as meal prep and cooking classes, Lisa is also now taking on private coaching clients and stepping into a thought leadership role. Like so many of us, we hesitate to see ourselves in these new lights, but she is beginning to embrace them as she shifts her focus from working “in her business and in the kitchen” to “on her business and behind the scenes”. Hiring on additional Chefs and stepping even further away from her dinner party duties. Training full-time office management, expanding her mind, and her calendar for new adventures she is on the cusp of launching.

This coming year Brooks has set her sights on a full rebrand of her website, this is at the top of the list! While her phone continues to endlessly ring off the hook for calls about mentoring and coaching, she is selectively taking on new clients as her staffing ramps up. Finally, I see speaking engagements, writing, and a cookbook in Lisa’s future. An equally gifted writer, it is an absolute that the world needs the recipes of Chef Lisa Brooks one day soon! From our conversations I know there is much more in store for Lisa as the years press on and I am on the edge of my seat for what comes next!

This photoshoot with Lisa was such a blast, I am smiling as I type this entire article! Mostly because I have had to face the fact that I am short. That means you not only get me on your photoshoot, but you also get my trusty step stool (I know, I need a picture to really tell the whole story, I will get one soon.) But, my favorite part of this day was me on my stool in the middle of the street screeching like a crazy person as Lisa stood in front of the fountain. I knew we had nailed some insane portraits throughout the day and I was freaking out with excitement! That is when you know you truly love what you do and that you can not get enough of hanging out with your client! Thanks for such a special day Chef Lisa!

That’s not it though! Stick around because I haven’t even shared the food photography part of our shoot!!! That will be next week 😉 If you are curious about a Chef Lisa recipe, don’t forget she is the July Featured Chef, so sign up for the newsletter and get her Grilled Filet Mignon with Roquefort Pecan Butter.

A special thank you to Terri at Amelie’s Bakery in NoDa and Amie at Charlotte Regional Farmers Market for allowing us to use your grounds for our photoshoots! Your help and support, especially during these challenging times made all the difference!
