3 Culinary Business Must-Do’s

February 6, 2020

Just a few quick thoughts I had about getting your business organized after chatting with a couple of Chefs this past week. There are some things you want to do to make sure you have in place if you are a business owner. Some are there to protect you and others can just help you boost your “appearance”.

  • Are you an LLC? This might seem more difficult than it really is. It is a pretty simple process and not as expensive as you might think. For me, finding the proper attorney to handle this was more of a hassle then actually executing the paperwork. Doing this is important so that you can protect yourself, your family and your business. Connecting with the proper attorney also allows you to have things like your vendor and client contracts properly reviewed.

  • Insurance. As a business owner in the culinary world, you need to make sure you have liability insurance. This is especially important in your line of work because you are serving food! There are some insurance companies who will not cover this type of business, therefore the premiums tend to be a bit higher, so it is a good idea to shop around. This is a top priority in protecting yourself.

  • Finally, are you using a generic email for your business address? If you are then let’s chat! Seriously, I am willing to help you convert that address to one that is associated with your domain. If you have a website, depending on your host, you either get a free email address or you can use Google for only $6/month. It seems like a silly thing but this will make you look “legit”. When you give out your email to a potential client or vendor and it is not associated with your domain, there is a little piece of them that wonders either why you don’t have this or if you are really serious about being in business.

There are of course, many other items to add to the list, but these are some simple steps you can take to begin to establish yourself in your industry.
