We have all seen the explosion of Personal Brand Photography online. The thing is, snapping pictures is great, but if there is no purpose behind them then when will you really ever use them except to fill up your Instagram feed, and that just isn’t worth a huge investment.
Branding Photography in the Culinary world has to be taken even a step further. Let’s face it, not all Photographers can shoot and edit food and they don’t all have an understanding of what you, as a Chef, do on a daily basis. And that’s okay, that’s how it’s supposed to be, I would never market myself as a Wedding Photographer! Gosh, can you imagine the poor couple who got me? I’d be in the kitchen getting some great shots of the Chicken Parm and the bride would have amazing pictures of her wine haha!
But, Personal Culinary Branding is special because it wraps in your own personal style with your culinary journey and brings you as a creative to life!
The first thing you will do when you work with me is fill out an extensive questionnaire and my inquiries may seem strange a first. So let me offer a simple example to help clarify.
If you list that your favorite dessert is Chocolate Chip Cookies, then you better be damn sure I am going to insist we have those on hand when we do your shoot!
Now your saying, okay Amanda, that’s all fine and good, but what purpose can a cookie picture really bring to branding myself and my business?
Wait for it, we are just getting started! Because you have also shared that when you were little your Grandmother used to make these for you every Sunday and it’s a unique recipe that has been passed down for generations…
This is where your personal and business brand come together and make magic!
You have a huge holiday marketing push every year and you always promote your business using these cookies. Well, this year you are going to tell the story of your Grandmother and share how special this tradition was to you. You will share the reason these cookies are made with so much love and how your guests can taste the love as you describe your memory to them.
You are letting them in to a little piece of yourself and they are connecting with all of it because of the strong imagery you have tied to your story. This combination will sell those cookies, you don’t need to do a BOGO offer this year! Actually, I am going to encourage you to up the price of those cookies and sell double because of how you marketed them!
Now, if you don’t have a Grandmother who made you cookies, that’s okay (me either haha) but I dig pretty deep and can always find some amazing personal treasures you didn’t even know you had!
I will be honest, Personal Branding of any kind takes time, this will not work if the stage isn’t set properly, but that’s what I’m here for!
